Our Union was formed in 1949, representing the employees of Aluminum Company of America and known as the Aluminum Workers Council becoming the Aluminum Workers International Council in 1950. In 1953 we were known as Aluminum Workers International Union. Through a series of mergers with the Brick, Glass and Clay Workers, in 1982 we became the Aluminum Brick and Glass Workers International Union.
In 1997 we merged with the United Steelworkers International Union becoming as we are known today: UNITED STEELWORKERS LOCAL 105
We continue to represent the employees of Alcoa but aslo having amalgamated Locals: Bowe Machine Local 105-1 and Sivyer Steel Local 105-2
